Refrigerant Changes
Key information for homeowners about the 2025 HVAC refrigerant changes:
Starting Jan 1st 2025 the federal government is requiring all new HVAC systems to use a new type of refrigerant.
New air conditioners won't use R-410A anymore: This is the refrigerant commonly used in most residential systems today. Starting in 2025, new units will come with more environmentally friendly refrigerants like R-454B and R-32.
It's about reducing climate impact: These new refrigerants have a lower global warming potential (GWP) than R-410A, meaning they're better for the environment.
Shouldn't affect existing systems: You can continue using your current R-410A system without any issues. You'll still be able to get it serviced with R-410A refrigerant. We expect the cost of this refrigerant to increase once it’s no longer produced.
Think ahead for replacements: If you're planning to replace your HVAC system in 2025, you'll be getting a unit with the new refrigerants. If you’re on a budget for a new system, you may be better off replacing it now before systems increase in price.
Potential Challenges: We can’t be sure that the new refrigerant won’t present it’s own challenges but our team is continually training and learning everything we can about these new requirements to keep our customers happy and comfortable all year long.
Call our team today or request an estimate online if you aren’t sure whether to replace your system in 2024 or wait until 2025. We’re glad to help you make an informed choice and help every step of the way.
